About the Program
Students learn the basics of the major techniques and must achieve mastery in lithography and etching. Black-and-white and color processes are taught in all media within the program. Students are also encouraged to pursue other areas of the printmaking curriculum, such as relief, monotype, letterpress printing, and book arts. The work will lead to the senior exhibition and helps prepare students for graduate school or a career in printmaking and the arts.
Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops with well-known visiting artists and master printers further enhance the curriculum, including the annual Hartford Print Workshop. This workshop brings in artists who work with students and master printers to create editioned prints in the HAS printmaking studios. One print from each of the resulting editions printed during this workshop are later housed in the Helen S. Kaman Print Study Center.
This area of study will lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art with the concentration in Printmaking. Students may also elect to pursue a minor.

You, Career Ready
Students can pursue a career as a gallery artist, a teacher, or arts administrator. A degree in printmaking will help connect you with the greater art community. One of our graduates, Jenny Haskins ‘13, currently represents the New Britain Museum of American Art for the Connecticut Art Trail. She collaborates with other institutions in developing marketing initiatives, and coordinates social media campaigns.
