Overview

Your perspective, shaped and molded. Students in sculpture explore a wide range of approaches to sculpture production. Our program recognizes the broad diversity of styles, techniques, and independent conceptual visions that define the field of contemporary sculpture.

About the Program

sculpture

We focus on developing work that is broadly based, both in concept and execution. Our course offerings hone students' conceptual skills as well as aesthetic and technical proficiency through projects such as site-specific installation, bronze casting and hot glass fabrication.

Our curriculum promotes independent exploration. Within this framework, students are taught to develop a strong personal voice, whether that is achieved thought progressive interdisciplinary pursuits, or the more traditional means of sculpture making.

This area of study will lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art with the concentration in Sculpture. Also available as a minor.

After your foundation year, this program guides you through a series of independent studios and ceramics intensives. You must complete 77–80 studio credits for your major, plus 45–46 academic credits.

You, Career Ready

kara kirkland

We prepare students for a variety of post-grad opportunities, such as employment in related fields or continuation towards advanced degrees.

One of our thriving graduates is Kara Kirkland '15. She became interested in sewing and creating costumes during her time in the sculpture department.  In the winter of her senior year, she interned for the costume designer at Sesame Street, Brian Hemesath. During her internship, she worked with him on the Broadway show, Honeymoon in Vegas, then worked for the Tony Award-winning costume designer, Paul Tazewell, on the Broadway production of Doctor Zhivago. After graduation, she moved to New York, where she has since worked on costuming for John Wick: Chapter Two and MR. ROBOT.

Additionally, our dedicated faculty are extraordinary teachers in the classroom and recognized professional, practicing artists/designers exhibiting and working in their fields. They provide valuable connections with their expertise and networks within the industry.
